Beige is beautiful

It may have been a little slow in transition to Pakistani fashion, but beige in every conceivable shade is clearly the logical successor to the chocolate tones we saw on Western catwalks through late 2018 to earlier this year. Recently at the Hum Showcase in Karachi both Rizwan Beyg’s Pearlessence collection and Warda Saleem’s Block printed Jhirki ensmbles was resplendent in multiple tones of beige from ecru to fawn. And if you haven’t guessed it by now, it is the colour every fashionista should be wearing this season.

A sophisticated head-to-toe spectrum of camel has been everywhere on the international catwalks. The Gucci collection was full of gorgeous, burnished brown tones that suited the depths of winter. And as spring blossomed, stony shades of oatmeal made their appearance on ramps everywhere – from Christian Dior to Burberry to Max Mara and Kenzo.

In Pakistan, spring and summer catwalks are generally resplendent with colour and this season is no exception, specially when it comes to the reigning lawn and textile collections. But even, so quieter tones have crept in for instance with Generation’s consistent ability to put their finger on the fashion pulse. Look for off-white embroidered tops and a lighter shade of pale.

Nida Azwer also works beautifully with an artistic blend of cafe au lait and gold. There are combinations in sand and stone that spell sophistication.

Then there are some lovely mushroom shades in Al Karam’s unstitched ensembles. And we know this is style maestro Ather Hafeez (formerly of Sana Safinaz) understanding the need to reinvent fashion palettes with something more earthy and global. However, he also chooses to liven the oatmeal further with deep red or antique gold – giving it a warmth and prettiness that will surely stand out in the predictable fashion terrain of bright colours.

So if you’re looking to lead rather than trail, to be fashion-forward rather than a fashion follower – this may be the time to buy beige!
